Screenshot of Vue Timeline

At a previous company, we licensed a third-party library to power a planner for managing people’s time. It displayed projects, people and the tasks they were responsible for, all on an infinite-scroll timeline.

It worked, but I wasn’t happy with it. We had a wrapper to make it play nicely with Vue, but you still needed to understand how the underlying library worked to use it.

I spent some weekends devising a better approach, and it eventually became a new product.

When I left that company, I still had ideas for making it better, so I started from scratch with a brand new approach. This is the result.

  • Custom virtual scrolling
    • Uses a mathematical grid to align events, which avoids polluting the DOM
  • Drag and drop
    • Keyboard controls
  • Resizing of tasks

It hasn’t been updated in a long time, but it may still be useful.
